YOUR HAPPY PLACE

June 23, 2021

Is being by the water your happy place? Whether it’s the lake, river or ocean, summer is a time to be near the water. Do you have a lake home, RV, camper or maybe just a tent? Making these escapes a comfy, cozy place to retreat is a wonderful way to enjoy the warm weather.

Our homes away from home allow us to gather as a family, have fun with girlfriends or just fine solace from everyday life. Summer is all about living outside, but it’s nice to update our interiors to mimic the feeling of freedom of summer. We all want our lake homes, ocean bungalows or campers to welcome us in like a comforting hug.

Let’s talk about some ideas that will help make your happy place even more relaxing and a place of respite.

WATER VIEWS

The water views are where everyone gravitates. Keep the color palette of your home a neutral and window coverings to a minimal to blend the outdoor views with your indoor space. Using the color “lake blue” has been proven to reduce stress, and an all white interior creates serenity and allows the views to be center stage.

ENOUGH FURNISHINGS FOR A CROWD

After a day on the water, everyone needs a soft place to land. Having ample seating in durable fabrics will protect against the kids and guests coming in with wet swimsuits and all that comes with an indoor/outdoor life. The furnishings should be versatile, like ottomans. Ottomans are portable, can contain storage and can either be used as a coffee table or seating. Keep extra cushions for floor seating or make a cushy spot along the hearth.

Always have extra beds! Having a summer home is a guarantee for guests. Make sure they’re welcomed and comfy. Bunk beds, pull out sofas and even inflatable mattresses increase the amount of folks you can host. But don’t forget to make your primary bedroom, a place to retreat at night. Keep all the bedding soft and soothing so everyone can rest up for the next day’s adventures.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

Bring in vintage and antique items to make the home feel instantly established. Generational family photos create a timeless sense of tradition and make you want to continue creating memories. The use of quilts or hand-me-down dishes make everyone feel at home.

TAKE IT OUTSIDE

An outdoor dining area is essential. There’s nothing better in the summer than dining under the stars surrounded by nature. Place a dining table on the porch, deck or patio and make sure it will seat all your family and friends. Set the table! Yes, even outside. Use cuttings from the yard for floral arrangements or small bowls filled with pebbles or glass collected from your outings as decoration.

Treat your outdoor seating areas as reverently as your indoor ones. Take advantage of outdoor living and get durable sofas and chairs to enjoy the water views, wildlife watching and star gazing.

Summer has arrived and the adventures are endless! Take your summer home to the next level and create a space that welcomes you with open arms.

Stylishly yours,
