THESE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS—EDITION 1

June 24, 2021

Are you singing that title in your head now? I know you are. Admit it! These are a few of our favorite things…

We all have our favorite things like food, songs, even children! Just kidding, kind of, but when it comes to design, our team gets very specific about what we love and we wanted to share some of our favorites with you. Today’s blog touches the surface about paint, trim, and doors.

Let’s talk paint. Why is it so hard to pick a paint color? Most people don’t have what some would call a ‘designer’s eye’ or, like a few of our clients, maybe you are color blind. Being able to envision a paint color across an entire room by looking at one teeny-tiny paint swatch shouldn’t be left to chance. It is the biggest surface in a room. Colors change in different environments with different lighting (natural and ambient) and even change depending on the colors reflected around it. Our team can help you choose just the right paint to transform your home.

We have a few of our favorite paint colors to help create stunning interiors. If you’re looking for a good white, Sherwin Williams, offers one of its most popular, Snowbound. Snowbound is one of our favorite go-to’s time and time again. It is a crisp white with undertones of gray and the faintest hint of beige. Snowbound is a cool white and when paired with gray it creates a beautiful combination. All of our homes should offer a sense of calm and painting a base of Snowbound is a great foundation.

While painting your walls ‘white’ may seem boring, painting the trim contrasting colors makes for drama (in a good way). For years, popular styling has been color on the walls and white trim. Our design team has fallen in love with flipping that thought upside down. Snowbound by Sherwin Williams looks spectacular when trimmed with Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray. Grizzle Gray painted on your trim and doors will give your home punch and pizazz. This color definitely falls in the ‘charcoal’ family, but its green undertones gives it substance. And if that’s not enough punch for you, take it a little further by going even bolder on your trim with Sherwin Williams Black Magic. That’s right black trim! Our experience with flipping traditional styling has produced bold and inspiring spaces.

We also have an unnatural love of doors and trim. Our team seeks to find all the right details for your home, down to the best rim profile or door design. Drive around your neighborhood and take a door tour. How many styles did you find? Walk through your home and count the room doors and don’t forget the cabinet doors! Door styles and trim speak volumes about the language of your home. It can say minimalist, traditional, farmhouse or even industrial.

Even the slightest change in trim casing can change the statement. In the photo shown above, the simple placement of pieces of trim and their joinery can drastically transform the design.

Doors come in so many options and can really transform a home. Our team choose specific styles to set the mood in a home. Pictured above you will see some of our stand out favorites (from left to right). First pictured is a two panel Roman door that gives a sense of tradition. The center door is termed the Berkley and makes a home feel contemporary and modern. The final door on the right is a slab style door that can be placed in any style home and is known for its versatility. As you can see from the comparison photo, wall color, trim color, and the finish chosen for the door all play a part in how the room speaks to you.

Whether it’s choosing paint, doors or trim, our design team can help change your world with a few of our favorite things.

Stylishly yours,

The Chelsee Sowder Interior Design Team
