Renovate or Just MOVE?

July 16, 2023

Renovate your home. Do you really want to tackle it? You love your home, but there’s a few spaces that need updating. Our team specializes in making the process as easy and pain-free as possible.

Renovating a space can be overwhelming. And if you’re living in the space while it’s renovated can cause some major household tension. The reality is… you get to pack up your life just like you would be if you’re moving to another state, but you don’t actually get to go anywhere. Then you have to put it all back! Just the thought can send you reeling. With our design team, we can lead you through every step of the way. We will help you create a plan from boxing up to unboxing and organizing.

You have a daily routine. You may not really realize it, but you and your family are used to things being a certain way and items being in certain places. Renovations disrupt routines. To make things easier, begin with a plan! I mean simple plans. Where will you sleep while things are uprooted? Where will you shower? If the redo is small, moving and reorganizing can happen in a matter of a couple days. Enlist extra help to move and heft the big things. And don’t forget your pets! Your furry children also need to know they’re secure. Board them or let them stay with a friend while all the madness is going on in your home.

Do you and your spouse agree on everything? Yeah- I know, that’s laughable. During this time, you can bet that you will disagree on something and with the stresses of your house being a mess, the little disagreements can feel like big ones. Your home is your sanctuary and it’s in chaos. The kids will fight. It’s a fact. Moving your treasured items is triggering. Have a plan for good communication and remember to breathe. Our staff can help you outline and track every detail. We want you to love your home and going through a bit of renovating pain can bring you so much more joy in the end.

To ensure things go smoothly, set a timeline, hire reputable tradespeople, plan for the unexpected and try to stick to your budget. You may need permits. Make sure you get these documents in advance to keep you from having any delays. Know who you’re working with. Get confident referrals and follow through on confirming them. Once you’ve decided on who you want to work with, get contracts. Signed contracts. This will give you peace of mind and security. Plan for hiccups and changes in direction. Digging into your home may reveal faulty plumbing or deterioration from age. These items will need to be addressed when they’re found to continue with your project. And budget… there’s always a budget. Know your limits and stick to it. Have a small contingency budget to help you get over any hurdles.

Renovating takes time and patience. Our design staff knows this better than most. We are here to take the reigns and let you enjoy the process. Contact us today and we will make your home the dream home you deserve.

Stylishly yours,

The Chelsee Sowder Design Team
