IS THE NEW YEAR ALREADY SPEAKING TO YOU?

December 28, 2021

As we look to the past year and what it has given us, let us look to the future with where we want to go! Your home should be a haven. While considering your space, take advice from some of designs most inspiring leaders!

Norman Foster stated, “as an architect, you design for the present, with an awareness of the past, for a future which is essentially unknown.” Now that is a mouthful of advice to take in!

Your Christmas decor has been so show stopping during the holiday season, but now that’s it’s packed away, why not refresh your accessories? Simply adding new throw pillows or a statement piece of art can dramatically transform your space.

Dorothy Draper articulated, “I always put in one controversial item. It makes people talk.”

Are you feeling more at ease in your space without all the holiday madness? Less is more is a great approach to design. With all the new toys scattered about, find ways to scale back or get creative with storage and organization.

Zara Hadid related, “architecture is really about well-being. I think people want to feel good in a space.”

Did you watch the kids use their new sharp crayons and color endlessly in their coloring books over winter break? Painting is the grown up version of coloring. There is no quicker or easier way to make an impact in your home than paint!

David Hicks expressed, “the best rooms have something to say about the people who live in them.”

Is your home really an expression of you or is it a collage of hand-me-downs and leftovers? If you’ve spent your time at home looking at the chair Aunt Bertie left you and wondering if it would fit in the fireplace, replace it! Your inner home design instinct is telling you to find more joy in the space around you.

Mark Hampton put into words, “real comfort, visual and physical, is vital to every room.”

You’ve been home and enjoying your family over the holidays. Evaluate how you felt while you were there. Consider how your family lived within your home’s walls. Is it working to bring you comfort?

Albert Hadley said, “the essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live. It is about the realities of what makes for an attractive, civilized, meaningful environment, not about fashion or what’s in or what’s out. This is not an easy job.”

Don’t let your home new year’s resolutions overwhelm you. As Mr. Hadley so nicely points out…. “Design is not an easy job.” Our team at Chelsee Sowder Interior Design is here to guide you through the new year. We would be honored to help you find your home’s best self.

Billy Baldwin couldn’t have said it better, “be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style.”

Let us help you curate a home that’s always true to you!

Stylishly yours,

The Chelsee Sowder Design Team
